CAPACITY BUILDING DIVISION
COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS (CBOs)- FORMATION AND CAPACITY BUILDING
NGOs are facilitated to decide, in partnership with the community, about the type of CBSs to be developed – their purpose, structure, systems and plans. This is particularly relevant considering the need to constantly evolve the CBOs – from small groups to larger collectives – federations, networks.
Further, training on capacity building of CBOs is aimed at development of their know-how and skills to understand and perform their roles effectively.
For the empowerment of the people it is necessary that they are organized to work collectively to support each other and also bargain with the stronger forces for their rights. This calls for formation and evolution of People’s Organizations. The formation needs to consider the need and issue around which the people need to be organized.
While the leaders and members of community based organizations, (SHGs engaged in saving and credit, water user groups, producer cooperatives etc) may have the urge but may need development of know how and skills to understand and perform their roles. The capacity building of CBOs is aimed at this. The training topics include:
Organizations Assisted
