Brief description of the major evaluations:
Post Earthquake Housing, Watershed & Income Generation Programs in Gujarat by Word & Deed India— The evaluation was conducted to measure the impact of the housing, watershed and income generation programs, implemented by Word & Deed India, Hyderabad, for the people affected by the Gujarat Earthquake in the year 2001. The assessment was done in two villages of Gujarat where Word & Deed India made the above said interventions. Apart from assessing the impacts of the programs on the lives of the people, the evaluation also identified the factors responsible for the successes or failures, by analyzing the need & relevance of the programs, process, quality, effectiveness and sustainability aspects. An assessment of the knowledge, skill & attitude of the human resource involved in implementation of the projects was also done to establish interlink between program quality and capacity of the human resources.
AMBUJA CEMENT FOUNDATION— The evaluation was carried out at two places (Ropar in Punjab and Darlaghat in Himachal Pradesh), primarily to assess the impacts of various programs implemented by the organization in these two areas during past two years and also to identify the underlying factors responsible for the positive & negative impacts. A thorough participatory analysis was conducted, involving all major stakeholders in the process, of all the programs including Natural Resource Management, Water Resource Management, Rural Infrastructure Development, Land & agricultural development, Education, HIV/AIDS, interventions for intellectually challenged children, women empowerment and livelihood. Areas of strengths and areas of concerns were identified and shared with the organization, with specific recommendations on improvement of the weak areas.
MID TERM EVALUATION ON TSUNAMI RESPONSE PROGRAM— A mid term evaluation of Tsunami Response Program was conducted in 4 states (Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands) with the support of ICCO and Kerkinactie, a Netherlands based Non Government Organization. The programme was being implemented by 11 partners in the above said 4 states / union territory. The Evaluation was carried out to assess the usefulness; quality and timeliness of the programme and to identify the areas needing mid course correction for greater effectiveness. The evaluation was conducted with a participatory methodology with full involvement of the various stakeholders. A task force was formed with representatives from each implementing organization and beneficiaries. The task force was thoroughly oriented on the concept; scope and methodology of the evaluation and the members of the task force were directly involved in the assessment process. Different programs taken up by the organizations for rehabilitation of the Tsunami affected people, including housing, livelihood restoration, child rights, education, health & hygiene, environmental conservation, disaster preparedness, psycho-social care etc. were covered through this evaluation. It helped in development of a strategy linking to relief, rehabilitation and development and content of the remaining part of the Tsunami programme of Kerkinactie / ICCO and implementing partners.
